Fuel Crisis
LAGOS lawyer and human rights activist, Mr. Victor Ukutt has called on the Federal government to genuinely intervene in the lingering fuel crisis in Lagos and other states.

He specifically urged President Muhammadu Buhari to set up a probe panel to investigate the Nigerian National Peteroleum Corporation (NNPC) and put an end to black-market syndrome, which has become the order of the day.

Ukutt who spoke to newsmen in Lagos noted that as a concerned Nigerian who is perturbed by the sufferings of the masses, he is unhappy about the lingering fuel scarcity in the country.

He blamed the development on corruption and government’s unwillingness to punish the oil cartel perpetrating the ‘evil’ against the citizenry.

“Nigerians who go overseas to refine the oil and bring back to the country may have their reasons. Some of them complain of poor power supply in the country. Some also complain of inconsistent government policies. I don’t have problems with that, some of them feel it is more lucrative to refine abroad and sell in Nigeria.

“I am an apostle of discipline and good governance. There is a saying that  ‘looting of the treasury is worse than genocide.’ Treasury looters should be dealt with. Because President Buhari has pledged to probe the oil sector, do you know that a lot of people are now beginning to do things right since he was inaugurated?

“People are complaining about NNPC. President Buhari should investigate it and other sectors like the Maritime sector and the Central Bank of Nigeria, which has become a cartel. He should also look into Assets Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) because I see it is the biggest fraud against this country. The Customs and Exercise department should not be left out of the probe as well. A lot of things need to be investigated if Nigeria has to move forward,” he said.
