The lawmaker representing Ijesa South Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Mr. Ajibola Famurewa, has urged workers in Osun State to suspend their ongoing strike action in the interest of the state.

Famurewa made this appeal at a press conference he addressed on the issue in Osogbo on Sunday.

The lawmaker lauded the workers for their patience over the issue of unpaid salaries but said the strike the workers embarked on was having a deleterious effects on the economy of the state.

He said that the strike was worsening the financial crisis in the state because the state was loosing the fund it should be realising as its internally generated revenue.

He said, “Genuinely, we must appreciate the understanding and support of the state workers for their perseverance. They have done well and they deserve to be commended from every corner. I want to appeal to the workers to please suspend their industrial action; because it is affecting the internally generated revenue.

“The IGR serves as augmentation for the federal allocation and since the workers are on strike, the IGR is no longer coming in. Aside that, many people that have business with the government have been restrained to the corner of the various houses by the industrial action. I want to urge them that they should resume work in the interest of the state and the people that need their service.”

Famurewa flayed the opposition in the state allegedly portraying the state in bad light, saying the situation in the state was not as bad as the opposition party was making the whole world to believe.

The lawmaker, who is a leader of the All Progressives Congress in the state said there were states which owed their workers 13 months salaries but their governors did not come under the kind of attack directed at Aregbesola.

Famurewa state that the alleged flashood being dished out to the public by the opposition on the financial status of the state was having a damaging effect on the economy of the state, while urging them to desist from doing so.

“While I understand that the nonpayment of salaries is bound to generate arguments and uproar, it is quite loathsome to hear some people accusing Aregbesola of mismanaging the resources and accruable funds to the state which resorts to the bizarre inability to pay the workers’ salaries; even when the development of the state is steering them in their ugly faces.

“The opposition politicians should stop their campaign of calumny against Aregbesola and stop disparaging the state. The sponsored calculated attempt to drag Aregbesola into the mud with the financial challenge of the state by them has failed; they should stop misinforming members of the public on the situation of things in the state,” he added.

He started that the governor had been judicious in managing the resources of the state, adding that he had undergone transformation in terms of infrastructure and Aregbesola had refused to stop free feeding of over 250,000 pupils despite the financial crisis.
