Six persons have been arrested by security operatives from the Zone 5 Police Headquarters, Benin, Edo State, for allegedly conspiring to assassinate one Etionsa Ighodalo of Iyowa Community, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesman for the zone, ASP Emeka Iheanacho, who disclosed this to journalists on Friday, identified the suspects as Osahon Iserhienrhien, Monday Idele, Uhunoma Idele, Iyobo Iyamu, Odion Omwamghe and Augustine Igbinovia,

He explained that the suspects were arrested on Jule 5 after the principal suspect, Osahon Iserhienrhien, connived with other suspects to hire one Osahon Johnson, said to be at large, to assassinate Ighodalo.

Iheanacho, who attributed the cause of the sinister plan to a power tussle between Ighodalo and the principal suspect over the youth chairmanship of Iyowa community, ‎added that the police recovered a list containing names of Ighodalo and nine others allegedly targeted by the suspects.

He said, “The assassins were to carry out the assignment on July 4, 2015, when the zonal operatives got wind of it and arrested Monday Idele and Uhunoma Idele, whose statements helped in the arrest of the principal suspects, Osahon Iserhienrhien, Iyobor Iyamu, Odion Omwanghe and Augustine Igbininovia on July 5, 2015, at the native doctor’s shrine, where they seek voodoo and spiritual protection,” he said.‎

Meanwhile, the zonal command said it has arrested one Stephen Enakhare Oshioma, suspected to be a notorious fraudster, who specialised in forging fake documents, including university degree certificates, drivers licence and bank statements of account.

Iheanacho said the suspect was arrested at Number 6, Paul Omorodion Street, BDPA Ugbowo, following a tipoff which, he said, also led to the recovery of several forged certificates of the Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Auchi Polytechnic and the College of Education, Ekiadolor.

He, however, said that all the suspects would be charged to court, as soon as investigations were concluded.
