INDIAN PREDATOR: THE BUTCHER OF DELHI is a new Netflix true-crime documentary series in three parts. Episode 1 is quite messy in terms of chronology and trying to keep up with the somewhat faulty logic of the police explaining the case.

If you’ve watched other true-crime documentaries (or movies based on true stories) from India, then you should know the police isn’t always the most trustworthy. In this Netflix docu-series, we follow the hunt for the serial killer leaving decapitated bodies in front of the infamous Tihar prison in Delhi.

I have a deep distrust of the police in India. And many other places, for that matter, where they have too much power and no real oversight. Maybe that’s wrong of me, but due to the documentaries I have watched (or cases I have read about) in the past, it seems impossible not to.

Also, the fact that they count their days of investigation in a very strange way, is just another example of how they always attempt to make themselves look better. After the third murder (in this particular killing spree), they count the investigations days beginning with the day the third victim was found.

That’s pretty peculiar since they surely should begin counting with the day when victim one was found. Also, they only really acknowledge that this is the work of a serial killer because the serial killer himself contacts the police. In fact, he has to tell them that they even missed one of his earlier victims from years earlier.

All this is despite the fact that the bodies are left in the same place and manner every time.

After Chandrakant Jha is arrested in episode 2, the third and final episode is mostly about him. In the sense that we hear from people who have known him for years. Also, we hear of other (alleged) crimes he has committed over the years.

Finally, we see his own pictures of victims (or would-be victims) which are quite tough to watch. Not that we see blood and guts. That’s more in previous episodes. However, the fear in the eyes of the young men being held captured is brutal.

Having watched Indian Predator on Netflix, I still don’t feel that the “facts” presented by anyone (police, acquaintances, or even the serial killer himself) are necessarily correct. But it’s the closest we’ll get to the truth.

If you’re interested in true-crime cases, then this is definitely a docu-series you will want to watch.

All three 45-minute episodes of Indian Predator: The Butcher of Delhi are intriguing in their own way. Each part shows brutality and disrespect of life that is very hard to relate to. However, it should also be mentioned that Chandrakant Jha is accused of many murders in this docu-series that he has never been charged with.

In so many ways, it seems obvious that he must be psychotic in his actions. Including when talking to the press where he seems quite unhinged. So, the question is how many crimes he is actually guilty of. We will never know for sure!
