It was recorded that a man named Ikeja, who is a known head of area boys led some hoodlums to attack people at the area. Two people – one Hausa and a Yoruba – got injured in the incident and they were taken to different hospitals with the state capital. Spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, SP Yemisi Opalola confirmed that hoodlums invaded the area but they have been overpowered by the armed policemen deployed by the command. She added that normalcy has been restored to the area. In the meantime, the state government has stated that the clash was not ethnic related, describing the incident as a mere uproar. Speaking about the situation that birthed the misinformation, Egbemode explained that there was an uproar that followed some market touts trying to extort traders in the market, but the situation was immediately calmed by security operatives in the area. Egbemode continued: “The government is and will continue to prioritize security in the State. So, everyone can go about his normal duties because there is nothing to fear. The people of the State of Osun have never been intolerant of other ethnic groups, and so, peddlers of misinformation should desist from misleading the public and creating non-existent tension-inducing scenarios”, she said.
