SP Yemisi Opalola, the Osun police spokesperson, stated that the abduction had been reported to the police and that machinery had been set up to rescue the victims.
In a statement released by the church on Wednesday, Senior Pastor Rev. Sunday Adeoye of Union Baptist Church in Odi-Olowo, Osogbo, made the announcement that the woman and her child had been abducted.
Rev. Adeoye was quoted as saying that the woman was abducted while returning from her shop, according to Mr. Oluwamayowa Fagbohungbe, the church's spokesperson.
The woman was supposed to be one of the teachers in the church's ministry for teenagers. She and her family are Baptists.
According to reports, the kidnappers have communicated with the victim's husband to demand a ransom of N5 million, which they have instructed the victim to deposit into their bank account.
The abduction is the third in Osun since the beginning of the year, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), and ransoms are said to have been paid in order to secure the release of the victims.
