Armed men have on Sunday burnt down Mkpatak police station, Essien Udim local government area of Akwa Ibom State and killed two police officers and twelve cows.

One of the officers according to sources was burnt inside his car while the other officer on a motorcycle was shot by the hoodlums.

A source who pleaded anonymity told journalists in the state that it was a coordinated attack launched in three different locations in the local government.

It could be recalled that a similar incident occurred yesterday, Saturday, May 8, 2021, as a police station was attacked at Idoro Ikpe, Ini LGA, where five police officers and a wife of a police officer were killed.

The source disclosed that the officers were killed in Ukana Ikot Ntuen while the cows were killed at Afaha Ikot Ebak in the same LGA

He said, “Two police officers have been killed in Ukana Ikot Ntuen and one was burnt inside his vehicle, while the other one was shot by the bandits. As we speak the situation is still tensed. They killed 12 cows in Afaha Ikot Ebak village.”

Meanwhile, the PPRO in the State, SP Odiko Macdon had confirmed the attacks but explained that he was yet to get an official report adding that the command has demanded an update which would be made public as soon as possible.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme, has ordered the deployment of a tactical team to the affected areas.

He said, “Well, I am yet to get the official report but we are following the trend and we have asked for an update and in no distance time there will be an update. As soon as we have the update we will let the world know. The CP has ordered the deployment of a tactical team to the affected areas.”
