Guilty-racked 33-year-old former Lagos Council Chief Security Officer, Umar Usman, risks three years in jail for impersonating an army officer as a Lagos court has reserved judgment for Sept. 5.

Sections 77 (a) and 328 (d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 under which the accused was charged prescribes three years for offenders.

Usman, who resides at No. 5, Lawal St., Idi-Araba in Mushin, Lagos, was charged for wearing an army face cap and presenting himself as an officer at a Surulere Magistrates¡¯ Court.

The accused had pleaded guilty before The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. M. I. Dan-Oni. Following the development, she fixed Sept. 5 for facts and sentence.
Earlier, the prosecution told the court that the accused committed the offences on Aug. 19 on Adeniran Ogunsany Street, Surulere at 4.00 p.m.

¡°The accused is a chief security officer at Ibeju-Lekki Local Government in Lagos State.

¡°A police team who were on bank surveillance patrol saw the accused with an unregistered motorcycle and an army face cap.

¡°When he was questioned how he came about the cap, could not give a satisfactory explanation.

¡°Usman lives with his brother, who is an army officer attached to Mayan Army Barracks in Yaba and it was discovered that the cap belongs to him.

¡°The accused had resigned as a security officer to use his motorcycle for commercial purposes because his salary was not paid in time, ¡° Sgt. Christopher Okoliko said.
