The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a female cult gang leader who is allegedly the brain behind a clash between rival groups which claimed lives on Tuesday.

No fewer than three persons were confirmed dead, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries in two separate clashes between rival cult groups in Mowe, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Following the clash, the state police command arrested 10 suspects including the lady said to be one of the cult leaders.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrests on Wednesday while parading the suspects before newsmen.

According to him, the groups came to Mow and unleashed mayhem on the area.

“The cult members, who are not from the community, stormed Mowe and battled themselves to a standstill before they were chased away by the police.
“They vandalized vehicles and made life uncomfortable for innocent residents of the area.

“Distress calls were made to the Area Commander, Sagamu, and Divisional Police Officer, Mowe Division.

“Consequently, policemen were swiftly deployed in the area and they repelled the assailants.

“In the process, 10 of the hoodlums were arrested, including a female member.

“They were arrested in various locations in the area and thus far, investigations have revealed that one of the cults held a meeting in the house of the female member.

“The Area Commander of Sagamu, Issa Gremma, who led the operation, is still on the ground in Mowe, monitoring the situation.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for proper investigation,” Oyeyemi said.
