ENUGUResidents of Igboeze-North Local Government Area of Enugu State have heaved a sigh of relief, following the dismantling of a two- man armed robbery and kidnap gang by Igboeze- South Division of Enugu police command. This came on a day the police in Aba, Abia State, arrested two suspected car snatchers who had been terrorizing motorists between Aba and Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The suspects, Sheeshor Nyoroku and Terser Nyor, both from Gboko, Benue State, fell to the superior fire-power of the police during a foiled operation on June 11. According to Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, the duo had been a thorn in the flesh of residents. He said: The hoodlums had allegedly stormed Amube village in Enugu-Ezike with their arms in an attempt to kidnap an Enugu-born and Malaysia- based businessman who was developing his property. Having failed to get their target, the miscreants snatched a Toyota Camry with registration No LSD 895 DL belonging to his friend. Our operative got a distress call and laid ambush on Iheaka community road. In the ensuing gun- fire, one of them died instantly, while the other ran into the bush with gun-shot wounds. The vigilante group in the area quickly assisted us in combing the bush where we later arrested the fleeing suspect. We recovered a Barreta pistol with five rounds of live ammunition from the suspect. Meanwhile, the police in Aba, Abia State, have arrested two suspected car snatchers who have been terrorizing motorists between Aba and Port Harcourt, in Rivers State. The suspects, ThankGod Onyebuchi and Egwim Onyekachi, were arrested at a popular fastfood joint, near Tonimas junction on the Aba-Port Harcourt expressway. Items recovered from the suspects include a Toyota Camry allegedly snatched from the owner in Port Harcourt, an identity card belonging to the Nigerian Navy as well as a military camouflage. Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Onyeke Ezekiel, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, could not be reached on his mobile phone at the time of filing this report, but a senior police officer in Aba, who confirmed the arrest, told Vanguard that investigations on the case had commenced.
