At least nine people have burned beyond recognition after a petrol-carrying tanker exploded along the Otedola Bridge axis of Berger in Lagos on Thursday evening.

It was gathered that at last 50 vehicles were destroyed by fire resulting from the explosion, which reportedly started at 5:30pm, Thursday.

Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and Lagos Fire Service were said to have put out the fire about an hour after the outbreak.

They say nine bodies have been pulled out so far from the many vehicles trapped in the fire.
