The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported that five people were killed in the Baruwa area of the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State after a gas tanker explosion.
In an interview with PM NEWS in Lagos, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, Acting Zonal Coordinator, Southwest Zonal Office, NEMA, who confirmed this, said that three individuals were rescued.
A similar incident occurred in Iju, on Sept. 24, in Ifako Ijaiye State Local Government Area, which resulted in 44 people suffering varying degrees of injuries while damaging 26 vehicles and 36 buildings.
Farinloye said the incident on Thursday occurred at 5.40 a.m. When a liquefied petroleum gas tanker was in the process of discharging at the Best Roof Gas Plant Station at Candos Lane, Baruwa Inside, Lagos.
"He said:" The gas station, sadly, had its generator on and an explosion was triggered.
The discharging tanker threw an explosion across the lane.
"There are victims. Five bodies have been retrieved, but after the emergency process, search and rescue will be carried out.
"Many buildings have been demolished since a densely populated neighborhood is situated inside the station."
Farinloye said that the inferno was delayed by Lagos State Fire Service officers while the emergency response agencies' impact assessment was underway.
