A tanker conveying Premium Motor Spirit has crushed to death an unidentified teenager at the popular New Benin market in Oredo area of Edo state, Southern Nigeria.

It is understood that the tragic incident happened on Friday night in New Lagos Road by traffic junction.

Eyewitnesses told newsmen that the deceased was attempting to cross the pavement of the road, when suddenly the Asaba-bound vehicle, marked XL895 UL, which was on top speed, knocked him down.

It was gathered that the incident almost resulted in crisis as angry youths threatened to burn the vehicle.

But reports say police operatives at the New Benin Division brought the situation under control.
