Two suspected cannabis dealers and one driver of a Dangote truck have been arrested by the Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), PUNCH reports.

Wakawa Buba, the NDLEA commander in the state, said that 18,294kg of the substance were seized in three different operations. The black market value of that amount of the substance is said to be about N183m.

The NDLEA said that one of the suspects Mohammed Mustapha, a Bauchi dealer, was arrested at Uzebba, Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State as he was arranging fot the movement of 7,272kg of cannabis to Bauchi State.

3,073kg of the substance was also seized at the warehouse of another suspected dealer, Lucky Akele around the same area in the state.

A Dangote truck driver was intercepted at Enweh, Edo state, by officers of the agency while moving about 7,950kg of the substance hidden in some bags of cement.

Zegiru, who said he was given N1.3m to transport the substance, added that his final destination was Maiduguri, Borno state.

Zegiru added that he agreed to move the substance because

“All the cases are under investigation and the suspects will soon be charged to court for unlawful possession and dealing in cannabis. They risk a minimum of fifteen years sentence if found guilty,” Wakawa said.
