Eight persons were killed after a truck loaded with sand crushed a commercial bus carrying passengers along the upper Sakponba road in Benin City, the Edo state capital.
The accident, which happened on Tuesday morning, was allegedly caused by the tipper’s failed brakes.
This resulted in the truck driver losing control of his vehicle and smashing into the bus. Among the dead is the driver of the bus, the conductor as well as women and children.
The angry drivers on the road, who later set the truck on fire, called on the government to regulate the activities of the truck drivers and make sure they are road-worthy.
