Isola, an accomplished author, was also a lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University where he was appointed a Professor in 1991. Renowned Nigerian playwright, screenwriter, poet and actor, Akinwunmi Isola dead at aged 79.

He is reported to have given up the ghost at his Ibadan residence in the early hours of today.

He is known for many plays, especially the epic O le ku movie which was later brought to screen.

He played apart of a lecturer n the movie that still resonates with young men and women today. died earlier today in his base, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Isola was born in Ibadan in 1939, and attended Labode Methodist School and Wesley College.

He got his first degree in French from the University of Ibadan before proceeding to the University of Lagos where he bagged a MA in Yoruba Literature in 1978.

He commenced academic work as a lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University where he earned his professorship in 1991.

His body of works, apart from O le ku, include his first play, Efunsetan Aniwura, which he wrote whilst still a student at the University of Ibadan. It was also brought to screen by Mainframe Pictures.

Others are Iyalode Ibadan, Tinuubu, Iyalode Egba.
