The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has made a significant decision regarding the upcoming orientation camp for prospective corps members in Plateau State.

In a release obtained by Adulawonews, the NYSC has altered the location of the camp, urging participants not to report to the previously designated camp in Mangu Local Government Area.

Plateau State, particularly Mangu, has been plagued by ongoing crises and violent clashes between local residents and armed militias. Unfortunately, security agencies have appeared powerless to curb the escalating situation.

In a recent incident, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) reported that 15 individuals were killed during an alleged invasion of communities in Mangu Local Government Area. Additionally, the group stated that 78 houses belonging to its members were set ablaze, and more than 2,000 cattle remain missing.

In light of these circumstances, the NYSC has taken precautionary measures to ensure the safety of prospective corps members. The organization has officially announced a change in the venue for the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream One Orientation Camp in Plateau State. Instead of Mangu, the new location will be Waye Foundation By Buken Academy, located in Doi-Du within the Jos South Local Government Area of the state.

Eddy Megwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations for NYSC, emphasized the importance of this decision in a statement. He stated, “This is to inform members of the public, especially our esteemed Prospective Corps Members, that the venue of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream One Orientation Camp for Plateau State has been changed from the Permanent Orientation Camp in Mangu to Waye Foundation, by Buken Academy Doi-Du (Temporary NYSC Orientation Camp) in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. All prospective Corps Members are by this information expected to report at the new Orientation Camp (Waye Foundation by Buken Academy) on the dates specified in their call-up letters.
