Justin Bieber reveals he has Lyme disease

Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber has revealed he has Lyme disease, adding that it has been a rough couple of years for him.

Lyme disease, also known as Lyme borreliosis, is an infectious disease caused by the Borrelia bacterium which is spread by ticks. The most common sign of infection is an expanding area of redness on the skin, known as erythema migrans, that appears at the site of the tick bite about a week after it occurred.

Lyme disease causes a rash, often in a bull’s-eye pattern, and flu-like symptoms. Joint pain and weakness in the limbs can also occur.

Justin Bieber made this known on his Instagram page, as he wrote that people had suggested he looked like he was “on meth”, but “they failed to realize I’ve been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease, not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my skin, brain function, energy, and overall health”.

He said he was getting “the right treatment” to help address the disease, and that more would be revealed in an upcoming YouTube documentary series about his life.
