Another person, possibly AKA's bodyguard, was also said to have been injured, according to the South African news outlet. AKA's close friend and another unidentified individual were also shot to death. In a statement released on Saturday morning, the family of AKA also confirmed his passing. It is generally accepted that AKA was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting while he was standing outside the Wish Restaurant. Posts on social media indicate that AKA was scheduled to perform at the Durban nightclub YUGO, where he was expected to perform as part of his birthday celebrations, just before 10 p.m. Two unidentified cars are believed to have opened fire. His close friends and coworkers have expressed shock on social media. When an IOL team arrived Friday night, the area had been cordoned off by police. In shock, stunned diners at a nearby restaurant informed IOL that AKA had been outside Wish when he was shot and killed. A spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, Garrith Jamieson, stated that Florida Road had been closed following the shooting incident. Jamieson stated that one of the deceased was a "famous rapper."
