Spotify has announced the launch of its own Awards show based on streaming data. The winners at the event will be based on purely user-generated data streaming numbers in different categories.

"Your games, trends and preferences can help to determine the award categories for the Spotify Awards by offering a true reflection of what fans are listening to. You can be enthusiastic about a show of honors that actually speaks to what the people are watching, "the press release said.

The Spotify Awards will be their own version the Billboard Music Awards which are also based on entirely sales and streaming data.

The first Spotify Awards will be held next March in Mexico City. The company has teamed with WarnerMedia’s Turner Latin America division to broadcast the show live on March 5, 2020.

According to Spotify, Mexico City is the market with the most listeners on their platform, ahead of even New York City, London, and Paris. Watch the announcement/teaser video for the first Spotify Awards below:
