The star-studded event was convened at the Arcadia Ballroom of the Westcliff Hotel in Johannesburg on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. Hosted by South African personalities, Nandi Madida and Ayanda Thabethe, the Entertainment channel BET (DStv channel 129) honored the likes of Bonang Matheba, AKA, Cassper Nyovest, Riky Rick and many more of South Africa’s media elite. BET Awards Twenty Of South Africa’s Most Influential Personalities Thabang Moleya, who received an award for BET A-List Director praised the awards saying, “It’s a great initiative by BET. I think it’s very important for the industry to acknowledge and recognize the people who are really making a difference in the industry. To just take a moment to say ‘Thank you, you’re doing well’ and ‘Keep going’, so thank you BET.” According to Lerato Mbangeni for iol.co.za, Monde Twala, the vice-president of BET, youth and music at Viacom International Media Networks Africa, said: “We are excited to reveal our new flagship entertainment show BET A-List and to simultaneously highlight individuals and groups who we feel are in a class of their own – men and women who are achieving above and beyond, flying the flag for South Africa beyond our borders and helping to transform our culture.” The event, including the awards presentations, will be aired on Thursday, September 15, at 18:35 on BET (DStv channel 129).
