Arsenal somehow managed to beat Bayern Munich on penalties after Alex Iwobi scored a last gasp equaliser to salvage a 1-1 draw during our International Champions Cup clash in Shanghai today.

Arsene Wenger named a reasonably strong starting eleven with Petr Cech, Granit Xhaka, Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck all starting alongside summer signings Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac.

Youngsters Krystian Bielik and Ainsley Maitland-Niles were also given a chance to impress against the European heavy-weights and it was the latter who gave away an unfortunate first half penalty.

Maitland-Niles was adjudged to have fouled Bernat in the area even though replays showed there was very little contact and Robert Lewandowski made no mistake to make it 1-0 in the 8th minute.

In truth, Bayern had several excellent chances to increase their advantage but we had Cech to thank as the Czech international made several excellent saves to keep the scoreline respectable.

Lacazette had our best opportunity as the French international saw his low effort well saved after he was sent clear by Ozil in the first half. However, there was a late twist as Iwobi grabbed a last gasp equaliser with a driving header from a superb Aaron Ramsey cross to send the game to penalties.

Ramsey, Monreal and Iwobi all converted from the spot and Martinez saved from Bernat to secure a 3-2 win on penalties. Next up, we play Chelsea on Saturday.
