Manchester united continue their pre-season preparations with a difficult match against Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup. Just when people were in danger of nodding off in the Levi's Stadium, something good has happened.

United have gone ahead after breaking the deadlock thanks to a wonderful piece of skill from Anthony Martial.

The French international appeared to be running into trouble as he found himself outnumbered, but somehow weaved past Daniel Carvajal and Luka Modric before picking out Jesse Lingard at the back post.

The England international was unmarked and couldn't miss, which he didn't, but all the credit must go to Martial.

And that's the last action of the half. Jose Mourinho's side are ahead thanks to Jesse Lingard, and are in pole-position to win their fourth-consecutive pre-season match.

FIRST HALF: MANCHESTER UNITED 1-0 REAL MADRID - JESSE LINGARD

Jesse Lingard opens the scoring, but the plaudits should go to Anthony Martial.

The expensive French international bamboozles his defender with some amazing footwork, and slides it across to the unmarked Lingard to thump into an empty net.

There’s a quick break while the players take on some water. Paddy Crerand’s not impressed though. “We didn’t do that in my day…” the 78-year-old says before unwrapping a Werther’s Original…Timothy Fosu-Mensah has just cleaned out Toni Kroos, and come away with possession. That’ll do wonders for the young man’s confidence.

FULL TIME: Real Madrid 1 - 1 Manchester United - International Champions Cup. (Casemiro)

Marcelo delivers a cross from the left flank but Sergio Romero’s quickly out to collect. Seconds later, Marcus Rashford receives the ball out wide, but nobody’s in the middle to convert the chance. Some bloke on Twitter: “Pereira has been very good in the Manchester United midfield. Hopefully Jose Mourinho can use him this season and not send him out on loan.” No real chances to speak of since that Jesse Lingard strike. Keylor Navas and Sergio Romero might as well head out for a pint. Manchester United looking pretty good so far, even Jose Mourinho’s looking pretty happy on the sidelines. Michael Carrick is dictating play nicely, but Real Madrid have started to turn up the heat.

Karim Benzema escape’s the attentions of Eric Bailly but he’s got no support.
