A remote-controlled bomb has killed four people and left 14 others injured in an explosion at a mobile phone market in southeastern Afghanistan on Sunday.

The latest attack comes at a time the Afghan government is mulling the possibility of training and arming 20,000 civilians as it tries to eradicate a resurgent Taliban.

The casualties were confirmed by the director of the Khost health department, Habib Shah Ansari.

He said the injured victims have been taken to hospitals.

Speaking to AFP, Khost provincial police chief Faizullah Khairat said “the blast happened at around noon in a market where people go to download music and videos to their mobile phones”.

Music was one of the many forms of entertainment banned during Taliban rule and market where they can be acquired have been attacked by the Taliban at different times.
