Zimbabwe’s president, Robert Mugabe, has finally resigned after 37 years as Zimbabwe’s leader.
The speaker of the country’s parliament announced Mugabe’s resignation this afternoon.
In his official resignation statement, he said:
‘I Robert Gabriel Mugabe hereby formally tender my resignation as President of Zimbabwe with immediate effect.’
MetroUK reports that wild celebrations was said to have broken out in parliament as impeachment proceedings were called to a close, the parliament’s speaker announced.
93 year old Robert Gabriel Mugabe is a Zimbabwean revolutionary and politician who served as the President of Zimbabwe between 1987 and 2017. He previously led Zimbabwe as Prime Minister from 1980 to 1987
