Handler Bitten By Tiger At Australian Amusement Park
on: September 02, 2024, 06:52:32 AM

A tiger bit an animal handler on the arm Monday at an Australian amusement park, according to officials.

The woman was brought by ambulance from Dreamworld in Coomera, Queensland, to the Gold Coast University Hospital in stable condition, according to Queensland Ambulance Service director Justin Payne.

According to Payne, staff handled the bleeding when an ambulance arrived at Dreamworld shortly before 9 a.m. The amusement park will open to the public at 10 a.m.

"We were advised that at that location a 47-year-old female, an experienced handler, had been bitten by one of the tigers," Payne told us.

"The patient clearly had suffered major lacerations and puncture wounds from the animal. "She was pale and unwell, but otherwise fine," Payne noted.

According to Dreamworld's website, its Tiger Island display features nine Sumatran and Bengal tigers.

The amusement park, which features both rides and animal exhibitions, described the attack as a "isolated and rare incident" that would be examined.
