During a cash-in-transit heist on the R40 right next to the Hazyview Sun Hotel around 10:00 on Wednesday, January 25, one Fidelity security guard was shot dead and two of his coworkers were injured. When it was shot at, the cash-carrying vehicle was traveling along the R40 between White River and Hazyview.

According to reports from the IOL Media, a number of armed suspects snuck up on the cash van and then used an explosive device to blow it up. "A shootout ensued, resulting in the death of one officer and the moderate injuries of two others," Van Reenen stated.

He stated that paramedics declared the guard dead.

According to Van Reenen, the two injured coworkers were treated and stabilized on the spot before being transported to a nearby hospital for additional care.

Rustenburg police are looking for a group of men who attacked a cash van on the N12 in the North West in a separate incident.

Four cars carrying the men collided with the cash van on its way to Wolmaransstad from Klerksdorp, stopping it in its tracks.

The robbers took an undisclosed sum of money after bombing the cash van.
