Donald Trump has been briefed on a shooting incident outside the headquarters of the National Security Agency (NSA), the White House said on Wednesday.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone that has been affected. We will continue to provide updates as they become available,” the White House said in a statement.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Baltimore said on Twitter it is sending personnel to respond.
A suspect is in custody and a black SUV was stopped at a barrier after the shooting was reported outside the NSA campus in Fort Meade, the Associated Press reported. AP also said a spokeswoman at Fort Meade said one person was injured in the shooting and was taken to the hospital.
The police activity closed roads near Fort Meade, the Maryland State Highway Administration said in a Twitter post.
Local television stations reported from helicopters that police surrounded a handcuffed man on the ground. It appeared that the SUV had crashed into a security barrier and bullet holes could be seen in the vehicle’s front windshield.
