Such is the case with Emilia Clarke. The actress, for better or worse, will always be known as Dany from “Game of Thrones,” and it’s that sort of preconception that colors all her other work, especially in the new trailer for “Above Suspicion.” Clarke stars in “Above Suspicion,” as a character that is likely going to throw her “Game of Thrones” fans for a loop. Gone is her regal British accent. No longer does she wear beautiful costumes and ride on the backs of dragons. Instead, she has a Southern American accent (yes, it’s distracting) and she plays a no-good woman in Kentucky that becomes involved with an FBI agent on assignment. As you might imagine, things go downhill pretty quickly and violence is involved. The film is based on Joe Sharkey’s 1993 non-fiction book of the same name. “Above Suspicion” is directed by Phillip Noyce. The filmmaker is a veteran of features and TV series, most recently working on projects such as “What/If” and “The Resident.” He’s probably best known for his previous feature “The Giver,” as well as films such as “Salt” and “Catch a Fire.” Joining Clarke in the cast are Jack Huston, Sophie Lowe, Johnny Knoxville, and Thora Birch. But really, as the trailer makes clear, this is Clarke’s film through and through, for better or worse considering that you’ll be hard-pressed to see her as anyone other than Khaleesi. And honestly, that’s a shame because the actress is quite good in films such as ‘Solo’ and “Me Before You.” However, it’s a bit of a stretch to see her as a backwoods woman in Kentucky. “Above Suspicion” is coming soon to Digital and VOD. Here’s the synopsis: Quote Nothing is more dangerous than someone with nothing to lose.Based on the chilling true story of a newly married FBI poster boy assigned to an Appalachian mountain town in Kentucky. There, he is drawn into an illicit affair with an impoverished local woman who becomes his star informant. She sees in him her means of escape; instead, it is a ticket to disaster for both of them. This scandal shook the foundations of the nation’s top law enforcement agency, ending in the first-ever conviction of an FBI agent for murder.
