Concise News reports, the N-Power beneficiaries were furious with scheme handlers for failing to pay their stipends. There have been delays in the payment of N-Power stipends in recent months with beneficiaries calling on the handlers of the social investment scheme to do better. No official statement has been issued yet on the continued delay in the payment of the September 2019 stipends to beneficiaries. N-Power Stipends Beneficiaries of the scheme are paid N30, 000 (82.99 USD) monthly with the Federal Government adding that is spent N15 billion as stipends on over 500,000 volunteers of the N-Power scheme. Major Achievement Dubbed as the largest post-tertiary employment programme in Africa, the Muhammadu Buhari government sees the scheme as one of its major achievements. Beneficiaries do not need high-wire connections as the screening process was largely transparent and efficient. About N-Power The N-Power Programme is a job creation and skills empowerment programme of the Federal Government of Nigeria. It is designed to help young Nigerians acquire and develop life-long skills to become practical solution providers in their communities, enabling them to become innovative players in the domestic and global markets. The programme is for young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 35. The main policy thrust of the N-Power scheme is to harness large-scale skill development in the country. Non-Graduate Programmes With a specific aim to diversify the economy, N-Power is preparing young Nigerians for a knowledge economy equipped with world-class skills and certification. Their current programmes are aimed at both non-graduates and graduate. N-Creative – The N-Power Creative programme will train and develop 5,000 young creative talents in Animation, Graphic Design, Post-production, and Script Writing. N-Knowledge – a “Training for Jobs” initiative essentially ensuring that applicants are engaged in the marketplace in an outsourcing capacity as employees, freelancers or entrepreneurs. This programme will work alongside the planned eight Innovation Hubs across the country to provide incubation and acceleration of the technology and creative industries. N-Build – N-Power Build is an accelerated training and certification (Skills to Job) programme that will engage and train 75,000 young unemployed Nigerians in order to build a new crop of skilled and highly competent workforce of technicians, artisans and service professionals. The focus industries include: Building Services Construction Built Environment Services Utilities Automotive Aluminium and Gas Graduate Programmes The N-Power Volunteer Corp currently involves a massive deployment of 500,000 trained graduates to support various identified sectors for growth and productivity. Each N-Power graduate is deployed to the chosen sector of vocation and paid a monthly stipend of N30, 000 (82.99 USD). They are also provided with a device with content related to their sphere of activity, civic duties and entrepreneurship, as well as a geo-tagging facility. N- Agro – N-Power Agro Volunteers will provide advisory services to farmers across the country by disseminating knowledge aggregated by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in the area of extension services. N-Health– N-Power Health Volunteers will help improve and promote preventive healthcare in their communities to vulnerable members of the society including pregnant women and children. N- Teach – N-Power Teach Volunteers aim to support basic education delivery in Nigeria. Volunteers are deployed as teacher assistants in the Nation’s primary and secondary schools. Where possible, these volunteers are taught to assist in taking basic education to children in marginalised communities. N- Tax – In support of the Federal Government’s goal to improve National compliance amongst taxpayers, 3,700 of the volunteers have been selected to work as Community Tax Liaison Officers working with 37 tax authorities within their States of residence. The N-Power community tax liaison officers have key responsibilities to answer online inquiries, customer management and create awareness of tax compliance.
