Do you like a little less Muppet-y and a bit more aggressively ghoulish your A Christmas Carol? Then you should be hyped for taking on the Charles Dickens ghost story by FX, written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) and starring as Ebenezer Scrooge with Guy Pearce (Memento). The network has just released a new trailer that not only gave the grimness another look at all, but also announced the film's premiere on Thursday, December 19.

A Christmas Carol, for the unfamiliar, follows noted town dickhead Ebenezer Scrooge—the official character description describes him as both a “skinflint” and “aloof and miserable”, instantly relatable imho—on the Christmas night three ghostly visitors try to show him the error of his ways.

Andy Serkis (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) co-stars as the “Ghost of Christmas Past”, alongside Charlotte Riley (Peaky Blinders) as the “Ghost of Christmas Present,” Jason Flemyng (Pennyworth) as the “Ghost of Christmas Future”, and Stephen Graham (Boardwalk Empire) as poor chained-up Jacob Marley.

Watch the new trailer below. FX’s A Christmas Carol debuts on FX on Thursday, December 19, at 7:30 PM ET. Knight serves as producer along with Tom Hardy‘s banner Hardy Son & Baker.

Here is the official trailer for FX’s A Christmas Carol:

FX’s A Christmas Carol is an original take on Charles Dickens’ iconic ghost story by Steven Knight. The FX Original Movie is a spine-tingling immersion into Ebenezer Scrooge’s dark night of the soul. The dark reimagining of the classic tale is produced by FX Productions in association with the BBC, Scott Free and Tom Hardy’s Hardy Son & Baker.
