You know you’re in for something unique when the teaser trailer for a film is nothing but one big trigger warning. Such is the case for the new teaser for the film “Assassination Nation.” As you might expect from the title, and the subsequent teaser, the film is chock full of murder, as well as just about every other offensive thing you can think of.
One thing the teaser doesn’t do is give you much in the way of plot. The narrator does say that her town of Salem loses it’s “motherfucking mind.” But outside of that, the teaser does just that – teases. However, what we know from the synopsis is everyone loses their minds based on a hacker releasing all the personal information for the population of the small town online. And as you might expect, this leads people to go a bit…crazy.
“Assassination Nation” stars Odessa Young, Suki Waterhouse, Hari Nef, Abra, Anika Noni Rose, Colman Domingo, Maude Apatow, with Bill Skarsgård, Joel McHale, and Bella Thorne.
The film is written and directed by Sam Levinson, who is probably best known for his film “Another Happy Day” and as the writer on the Bernie Madoff biopic “The Wizard of Lies.” However, this feels about as far away from that Robert DeNiro TV film as any you could imagine.
“Assassination Nation” hits theaters, courtesy of NEON, on September 21.
Here’s the official synopsis:
High school senior Lily and her group of friends live in a haze of texts, posts, selfies and chats just like the rest of the world. So, when an anonymous hacker starts posting details from the private lives of everyone in their small town, the result is absolute madness leaving Lily and her friends questioning whether they’ll live through the night.
