Alex Garland is no stranger to the subject when it comes to sci-fi movies and technology, especially in his films. Now he's bringing his brand new show, "Devs" to television. After the critical success of the films “Ex Machina” and “Annihilation,” Garland has written and directed all eight episodes of what is one of our most-anticipated shows of 2020.

Speaking to Fandango, Garland gave a glimpse of what to expect from his latest show. “This is slightly more in common with projects I’ve worked on like ‘Ex Machina’ or ‘Never Let Me Go,’ which are taking something about our world now — not our world in the future, but our world as it is right now — and then drawing sort of inferences and conclusions from it.”

The show will be based around the idea of technology and hacking, considering the plot is about a computer engineer trying to find out the secrets of the company she works for (known as the “cutting-edge tech company” Amaya) as to why her boyfriend suddenly disappeared. Garland spoke of this before the release of ‘Annihilation,’ saying, “It’s a sort of science fiction, but it’s a much more technology-based sci-fi whereas ‘Annihilation’ is a more hallucinogenic form of sci-fi and more fantastical form of sci-fi.”

‘Devs’ will feature Sonoya Mizuna, who was also in Garland’s ‘Ex Machina,’ as software engineer Lily Chan. The series will also see Nick Offerman play Amaya’s CEO, Forest. There are also roles for Jin Ha (“Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert”), Zach Grenier (“Fight Club”), Stephen McKinley Henderson (“Lincoln”), Cailee Spaeny (“Pacific Rim: Uprising”), and Alison Pill (“Scott Pilgrim vs. The World”).

Here is the synopsis:

Devs follows the story of a young software engineer, Lily Chan, who investigates the secretive development division of her employer which she believes is behind her boyfriend’s murder

The series will premiere on FX on Hulu on March 5.
