Notably, Adam Wingard of “You’re Next” fame is currently attached to direct the “Godzilla vs. Kong” film in 2020, and hopefully, the studios will permit both Wingard and Dougherty with a bit of artistic leeway instead of limiting the directors to simply overseeing an endless series of CGI Kaiju wrestling matches. Nevertheless, ‘King of the Monsters’ does host the potential to boast more depth than your average monster flick. With director Michael Dougherty at the helm — you might recognize the filmmaker’s name if you’re a fan of the cult classic “Trick ‘r Treat” or “Krampus” — the upcoming creature feature will hopefully showcase less brawn and more brains than its counterparts. “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” will be released in theaters everywhere on May 31, 2019.
