Frizzell greets audiences with a wink and a middle finger in this first trailer. The film focuses on the relationship between two high school dropouts, Angela and Jessie. It’s another refreshing take on the relationships forged between women. Throughout the trailer, the two are plotting their escape to the beach. After her stint on “The Fosters,” we get to see Maia Mitchell flex her comedy muscles. And a brand new face we haven’t seen is that of Camila Morrone. Behind the rebellious romp is A24. The company championed “Lady Bird” less than a year ago to great critical acclaim. But this movie makes Christine McPherson look like a good Catholic school girl.

Here’s the full synopsis:

Never Goin’ Back is a fresh and funny look at female friendship, following Angela (Maia Mitchell) and Jessie (Camila Morrone), who dream of escaping their waitressing jobs at a low-rent Texas diner, even if it’s only to Galveston. Taking place over just a few days, the film follows their hilarious and unpredictable misadventures on the streets of suburban Dallas as they attempt increasingly madcap and wild schemes to try and raise some cash.

We’re still in the midst of the tidal wave taking over Hollywood; unique, female-centered stories are being told. Just from the trailer, this looks like another addition to that growing canon. “Never Goin’ Back” will find its way to theaters on August 3.
