The ending of "Game of Thrones" left a huge hole in programming for HBO. Over its course it became the network giant's most popular show, but also overall inside television. It has evolved into a cultural phenomenon and HBO is finding a series to fill the void of the ' Thrones.
A few shows have the bandwidth to insert themselves into this space. “Watchmen” and “His Dark Materials” put together interesting first seasons, with the former garnering critical and cultural praise. One of HBO’s biggest remaining series though is finally returning, with “Westworld” Season 3 finally coming to TV screens.
Since season one, “Westworld” has been a show centered around thought and a struggle for power. It contains a big, bold world that has a huge cast of characters, some of which have already died before our eyes. Sound familiar?
Both “Westworld” and “Game of Thrones” are adaptations that take the source material farther than the author had time to write. They are both well within IMDb’s top 100 rated television shows of all time, receiving praise for beautiful, well-crafted storytelling combined with breathtaking visuals.
These shows feature incredible moments focused on the conversation. Their strength lies in their stillness, not necessarily their big-budget fight scenes.
The creators and writers have taken their time, giving fans and casual viewers more than enough time to craft new theories and rewatch the first two seasons. It has been almost a year and a half since the last “Westworld” episode aired. We certainly have waited long enough.
“Westworld” Season 3 premieres on HBO on March 15.
