As already reported, the role of Leia Organa will once again be played by Carrie Fisher, using previously unreleased footage shot for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and the cast has been promising an elegant ending for her character.

Also returning to the franchise is Billy Dee Williams, who will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian. Newcomers to “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” include Naomi Ackie, Keri Russell (“The Americans“) and Richard E. Grant who was nominated for an Oscar for his celebrated supporting turn in “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” Nothing is known about their parts, but Grant semi-recently revealed that he is not playing an older version of Grand Admiral Thrawn, an old character from the books who was recently re-entered into the official cannon via ‘Rebels,’ as rumored.

Returning to the saga is Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd, who will be joined by veteran actors Mark Hamill and Anthony Daniels. Composer John Williams returns too, but this is said to be his farewell to “Star Wars” after this (minus theme parks).

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” is due December 20.
