Writer Stephen King seems to be showing up quite a lot in popular culture. References to his books are made in the Netflix hit “Stranger Things.” And the latest adaptation of his horrifying novel “It” was a huge success at the box office, last summer. Now, Hulu is bringing on the King craze with their latest trailer for “Castle Rock.”

If you’re not familiar with the show, from the get-go you can still tell this is a Stephen King vehicle. Familiar faces to King’s work appear in this latest horror ride. Melanie Lynskey (“I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore“), Sissy Spacek (“Carrie“), Andre Holland (“The Knick“), Jane Levy (“Don’t Breathe“) and Bill Skarsgard (“IT”) are among the forlorn faces in the new trailer. Not to mention the overall haunted feeling is quite on par with King’s style.

Based on the work of the acclaimed writer, “Castle Rock” intertwines the lives of characters in the town of Castle Rock. But it seems to be the town that is the main character of it all. Like the town of Derry in “It,” this town is also cursed, or so the haunted narrator tells us. Throughout the trailer, eerie music sweeps across nerve-stricken faces looking over their shoulders or trying to hide from sight. Again, pretty much your average “Master of Horror” Stephen King schtick.

There’s also a sense of science fiction and mystery. There’s no surprise that J.J. Abrams also has his name tied to the project. Bringing with him Terry O’Quinn of Abrams’ series “Lost.” Right now, we’re really living in a sort of renaissance of horror. In theaters, the horror genre is doing well at the box office and critically. Finally, the Academy’s approval, by recognizing “Get Out,” legitimized horror as a genre to be taken very seriously and to never discount. The horror craze should stretch beyond the theaters to television. And with a show like “Castle Rock” with Stephen King and JJ Abrams behind it, this long-awaited show could be a huge breakout for Hulu.
