Not all thing is as it seems for Cristi, a police inspector in Bucharest who plays both sides of the law. Embarked by the beautiful Gilda on a high-stakes heist, both will have to navigate the twists and turns of treachery and deception.

A secret whistling language spoken on the Spanish island of La Gomera might just be what they need to pull it off. Apparently, a noir-tinged comedy, the movie stars “4 Months…” and “Snowpiercer” actor Vlad Ivanov, and we’re delighted to premiere an exclusive clip from the picture, ahead of its Croisette premiere tonight.

Watch the footage below, along with the synopsis and additional clips already released for the movie, and check back in a day or two for our verdict on the movie itself.

That movie won him the Camera d’Or prize at Cannes, while follow-up “Police, Adjective” took the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize a few years later, while his most recent “The Treasure” took a trophy in the same section back in 2015.

But Poromboiu looks poised to move up a weight category with this year’s “The Whistlers,” which is about to premiere at Cannes, and for the first time, the director is in the main Competition section, which bodes well for the film.

It’s probably a stretch to call any of the Romanian New Wave filmmakers household names, exactly, but for over a decade now they’ve been making some of the most interesting cinema of anywhere in the world.

And while the films of Corneliu Poromboiu haven’t quite yet picked up the prizes and plaudits of compatriots like Cristian Mungiu (whose “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days” took the Palme D’Or) or Cristi Puiu (whose “The Death Of Mr. Lazarescu” was named one of the best films of the 21st century by the New York Times last year), he’s been doing consistently excellent work since his 2006 breakthrough “12:08 East Of Bucharest.”
