Sicario: Day Of The Soldado Trailer
on: May 25, 2018, 02:22:47 AM

Watching the new trailer for “Sicario: Day of the Soldado,” it’s hard to imagine that the franchise had its beginnings with a thoughtful, and often scary, look at the Mexican cartels from director Denis Villeneuve. The director didn’t return for the sequel, and if you judge the film based solely on this new trailer, you’d assume ‘Day of the Soldado’ is your everyday action film, with fast-paced, quick-cut footage, lots of explosions and hip-hop playing in the background. But make no mistake, ‘Day of the Soldado’ still has a pretty great pedigree.

The sequel is directed by Stefano Sollima, who has several Italian films under his belt, as well as being the director of the TV series “Gomorrah.” “Sicaro: Day of the Soldado” was written by Taylor Sheridan, who is probably one of the best screenwriters on the planet right now and was responsible for writing the first “Sicario.”

Also returning this time around are Benicio Del Toro, who stole the show in the first film, and Josh Brolin, who is having a bit of a moment with “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Deadpool 2” dominating the early summer box office. Joining Brolin and Del Toro in the cast are Isabela Moner, Jeffrey Donovan, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Catherine Keener.

“Sicario: Day of the Soldado” hits theaters on June 29.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In SICARIO: DAY OF THE SOLDADO, the series begins a new chapter. In the drug war, there are no rules – and as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the US border, federal agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) calls on the mysterious Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro), whose family was murdered by a cartel kingpin, to escalate the war in nefarious ways. Alejandro kidnaps the kingpin’s daughter to inflame the conflict – but when the girl is seen as collateral damage, her fate will come between the two men as they question everything they are fighting for.
