The teaser doesn’t give much in the way of plot. The trailer is a montage of quick cuts that showcase the various characters that will inhabit the Kawase production. One of the standouts, and first to get a spotlight, is none other than French actress Juliette Binoche, who is teaming up with Kawase for the first time in “Vision.” In the story, Binoche plays an essayist that travels to the Nara province and meets a local mountain man, and the two develop a connection despite their difference in language and cultures.

“Vision” also stars Masatoshi Nagase, who has previously worked with Kawase on the films “An” and “Radiance,” which both made appearances at the Cannes Film Festival. However, even with the addition of Cannes favorite Binoche, we recently shared the news that “Vision” won’t be making an appearance at this year’s festival.

Kawase had previously shown several films at the festival and even walked away with a few prizes of her own. So, it’s sad to hear that we won’t get a chance to watch this beautiful film next month at Cannes and will have to wait for more news about its release down the road. But if this little 30-second teaser is indicative of what we can expect to see in “Vision,” then we are in for another special film from one of Japan’s best filmmaking minds.
