Lockwood & Company A brand-new British mix of genres is available on Netflix. Although this is a tale about ghost hunters, there is also horror because the official main genres are action, adventure, and drama. It is different from a story with adult main characters because the ghost hunters are teenagers. But not negatively.
This new Netflix show has a lot of humor and social commentary in addition to all the traditional supernatural elements. When it comes to social commentary, it's quite brutal and dark, but the humor keeps it from getting too dark. It truly is an excellent option for the entire family.
If you haven't read any Lockwood & Co. books yet, you should know that this isn't just a story about ghosts and teenagers. Since "The Problem," the world has been very different from what we know. Ghosts managed to appear suddenly in our world. They can kill you if they touch you, so the fact that ghosts are everywhere isn't just scary.
Additionally, adults cannot hear or see ghosts. Only children can. And as they get older, they lose this ability.
The solution became clear to adults everywhere: After receiving training, teenagers are put to work as ghost hunters. It is still a dangerous job, regardless of the teenager's talent or the training they receive. Teenagers can also die from ghosts touching them. Or, they could be in a coma-like state.
One of the characters, Lucy Carlyle (Ruby Stokes), is forced to work as a ghost hunter by her mother. In point of fact, her mother appears to have no interest in her daughter at all, which is an unsettling and cruel way to begin a story.
These adolescent ghost hunters are also more dependent on one another than any adult because they are so important to the world's safety. That's why Anthony Lockwood wants to start his own business, Lockwood & Co. Anthony Lockwood, played by Cameron Chapman, is able to see ghosts and hear them, while Lucy Carlyle is incredibly talented. Ruby Stokes (A Banquet, Bridgerton) plays Lucy Carlyle, who appears to be Florence Pugh's younger sister. She is perfectly cast here because she possesses the same fierceness in many ways.
George Karim (Ali Hadji-Heshmati from BBC's Bad Education) completes the Lockwood & Co. trio. He has the ability to be a genius in many other ways in addition to his ghostly abilities.
The Lockwood & Co. business is unique in that it is essentially described as being "independent of any commercial imperative or adult supervision." In addition to that, this tiny startup now has a girl with extraordinary psychic abilities on staff.
You'll meet a lot of characters, including a lot of shady adults, many of whom, you might be familiar with, are played by actors.
Jack Bandeira (Gunpowder Milkshake), Ben Crompton (Rebecca), Ivanno Jeremiah (A Discovery of Witches), and Luke Treadaway (Prime Video's Fortitude) will all appear in the first season. Due to the fact that his twin brother Harry Treadaway appeared in Penny Dreadful and Mr. Mercedes, the latter remains primarily a familiar face to me.
This Netflix series, which is based on a book series and is created by Joe Cornish (Attack the Block, Ant-Man), is adapted from a book series. The novel by Jonathan Stroud serves as the basis for Lockwood & Co. The series actually consists of several books, and we can hope for more seasons of this new fantasy hybrid series.
On the other hand, Netflix is a risky business, but it does appear to be the plan. or, in any case, hope.
Joy Wilkinson (Doctor Who), Ed Hime (Skins), and Kara Smith (The Baby) are among the series' writers. The eight episodes of season 1 are directed by three different people. William McGregor from "His Dark Materials," Catherine Morshead from "The One," and the show's creator Joe Cornish are all of them.
Even though many people may be quick to label Lockwood & Co. as a young adult series, this is primarily a supernatural thriller mystery. As a result, you can enjoy this at any age. Additionally, the majority of the irritated and obnoxious characters in this brand-new Netflix series are adults. Actually, the teens and young adults in the lead roles are very well portrayed and charming.
Netflix will release the first season of Lockwood & Co. on January 27, 2022.
