His new album Streams of Thought, Vol. 3: Cane and Abel was supposed to hit stores July 31st but later pushed back to a later date. The last week, the Roots member made the surprise announcement that he has signed his first solo major label deal with Republic Records. “Black Thought is one of the greatest MCs of all time, hands down,” said Sam Taylor, the EVP A&R of Republic Records. “I’m honored that he decided to join the Republic family and we are really excited to be able to work with him, Sean C and the rest of their amazing team.” Although there is still no release date for his album, Thought is serving fans with a new single titled ‘Good Morning’ today where he is joined by Pusha T and Killer Mike on guest verses, and Swizz Beatz on the hook. Listen/preview below (currently only available in select international markets). “It is a reintroduction. It speaks to an awakening. Plus, it’s a stellar lineup of features on one record – the level of dimension and different energy you get in one densely packed moment is unprecedented for the Roots and Black Thought up to this point,” he told Variety. “The energy of the production, whatever iconic thing it is that Swizz (Beatz) does elevating the chorus, juxtaposed with what Pusha T and Killer Mike bring to the equation… I felt as if it was a no-brainer.”
