Trick guaranteed the Tesla head had encroached the copyright of one of her dad Tom Edwards' outlines, which portrays a unicorn flatulating into a pipe associated with an electric car. The question has now been settled, as indicated by Edwards' site and an Elon Musk tweet of a flatulating unicorn and peace image. Writes Edwards, “I am happy to report that we have reached an agreement with Tesla that resolves our issues in a way that everyone feels good about! It’s clear there were some misunderstandings that led to this escalating, but I’m just glad that everything has been cleared up.” In that 2017 tweet, Musk had written, “Electric cars are good for the environment because electricity comes from magic.” He re-created the image in Tesla’s sketchpad app the following month during demonstrations. Edwards didn’t take issue until he discovered that the image was being used as an icon in the interface of every Tesla car. “I realize my farting unicorn is not as serious as whistleblowers, but honestly, it’s all about integrity,” he told the Guardian. “I’d really like to get on Elon Musk’s good side … he’s really really interesting. But he isn’t above copyright law.” Lisa Prank then tweeted at Musk to ask for an explanation. In a since-deleted exchange, Prank asked him, “Don’t you think artists deserve to be paid for their work?” Musk replied, “Have asked my team to use a diff example going forward. He can sue for money if he wants, but that’s kinda lame. If anything, this attention increased his mug sales.” Musk also said that he already offered to financially compensate Edwards for his work, though Prank claimed that was false.
