The mother of Real Madrid superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, Dolores Aveiro was stopped at Madrid's Barajas Airport last month over charges of money laundering.
According to The Telegraph, 60-year-old Aveiro was held by border police at Barajas after it was discovered she had a total of €55,000 (£40,000) in her hand luggage.
In Spain, the maximum amount travellers are permitted to carry with them without declaring a transfer is €10,000 and Aveiro had not filled out a declaration form. Other reports say she was held by civil guard agents at the airport for a few minutes while the excess cash was confiscated before she was eventually allowed to fly to Portugal with €10,000 of the total amount.
The superstar's mother will now be fined at least €600 for attempting to illegally export cash and the confiscated €45,000 can only be released to her after paying the fine, although the incident is not viewed as a crime but an administrative offence.
