Posted by: Yakub Oloyede« on: December 06, 2015, 10:39:45 AM »As the voters in Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa state head to the polling units today, December 6, the two main contenders for the governorship post, Timipre Sylva (APC) and Seriake Dickson (PDP), express confidence in their lead and the forthcoming victory. Saliu Argungu, the deputy inspector general of police, said there would be restrictions of movement in the affected areas, adding that all the security agencies were mobilized to beef up security. He also added that the police cannot confirm some people were killed as corpses and particulars of the purportedly dead persons cannot be traced. The PDP claimed to be in early lead based on unconfirmed results which are being released at polling units and wards since the evening of Saturday, December 5. Photo: PremiumTimes According to Leadership, the PDP announced its candidate was victorious in all the three wards in Odi and all the units in Kaiama, Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA, maintained a comfortable lead in Ekeremor, Ogbia, Sagbama and Yenagoa LGAs. In their return, the APC declared Sylva was leading in Brass, Ekeremor, Kolokuma/Opokuma, Nembe and Yenagoa LGAs. They admitted Dickson was winning in Sagbama LGA, while Ogbia’s results were ‘neck to neck’. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared that the governorship election in some parts of Bayelsa state would continue on Sunday due to renewed tensions and threat of possible violence. Mustapha Leckey, the INEC national commissioner representing South South, declared that election in Southern Ijaw local government area ran into hitches due to clashes between rival parties. Yahaya Bello, representing the APC in the Kogi governorship election, was announced the winner in the early hours of Sunday, December 6.
