Atiku Abubakar, the People's Democratic Party's presidential candidate, has lost his appeal to the Supreme Court. In a decision on Wednesday, the Supreme Court affirmed that in the presidential election of 23 February, President Muhammadu Buhari was validly elected president of Nigeria. A seven-man court board, led by Nigeria's Chief Justice, Justice Tanko Ibrahim Mohammed, also rejected the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar's appeal challenging Buhari's presidential election victory. The panel in a unanimous judgement said there is no merit in the appela. Atiku had gone to the apex court to challenge the September 11 judgment of the Justice Mohammed Garba-led Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal which affirmed President Buhari’s victory at the polls.
