Elder statesman and Nigeria’s former permanent representative to the United Nations (UN), Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule has died in the early hours of Monday in Egypt.

One of Maitama Sule’s surviving son, Alhaji Mukhtar Maitama Sule, who confirmed the death of his father, said he died in Egypt, 24 hours after arrival at the hospital.

According to him, his dad’s remains would be flown to Nigeria tomorrow for a befitting burial, according to Muslim injunctions.

Sule was appointed Minister for National Guidance in 1983 by then President Shehu Shagari.
