Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has acknowledged that he has benefited from President Muhammadu Buhari's signing of the Electoral Act.
 
On Friday, he made the disclosure.
 
He claims that the piece of legislation, which he claims ensured free and fair elections, helped him win the governorship election on July 16, 2022.
 
This was what Adeleke said when he shared the main points of his meeting with the President at the State House in Abuja around 11:00 a.m.

Since Adeleke took office in November 2022, this is his first meeting with the President.
 
“Since my election, I felt like I should come and say hello to Mr. President and thank him for signing that Electoral Act because I benefited from it,” he said while briefing journalists.
 
“The international community is applauding Nigeria, that Nigeria is set for democracy, because that paved the way for free and fair elections.
 
This is the reason I'm here today; to see him, express our gratitude to him, and wish him well in his final term as president.
 
Adeleke stated that he would collaborate with the President's Chief of Staff to develop a suitable framework for Federal and Osun State government collaboration.
 
He stated, "I will meet with the Chief of Staff to discuss the next steps for the Federal Government to assist Osun State."
 
According to the PUNCH, Buhari signed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2022 into law on February 25, 2022.
 
The President stated that important provisions in the legislation have the potential to positively transform Nigerian elections through new technological advancements.
 
"These innovations would ensure that citizens have the constitutional right to vote effectively.
 
According to Buhari's statement, "The Bill would also improve and engender clarity, effectiveness, and transparency of the election process," as well as "reduce to the barest minimum incidences of acrimony arising from dissatisfied candidates and political parties."
 
Five months later, Adeleke, the governorship candidate for the People's Democratic Party, won 403,371 votes, defeating Adegboyega Oyetola, the APC's previous governor, who received 375,027 votes.
