Senator Godswill Akpabio reportedly resign as Minority Leader of the eighth Senate, amid speculation of his defection from the PDP to the ruling APC.
Akpabio, made this known in a letter on August 4, and addressed to the Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Emmanuel Bwacha. He, however, did not disclose any reason for his resignation.
But the former governor of oil-rich Akwa Ibom thanked the senate leadership and referred to the PDP as “our great party”.
He compose:
“May i extend to you and my dear colleagues in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senate caucus of the 8th senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria the compliments and best wishes of my constituents and i.
“The letter is to formally inform you of my resignation as the senate minority leader with effect from August 4, 2018.
“Let me thank the senate minority leadership, my distinguished colleagues and our great party, the PDP for the opportunity to lead the Caucus for the last three years.
“Please accept the assurance of my highest esteem.”
